Depression can affect every aspect of our lives, from our work, school, relationships, and daily functioning. At GIA we understand that every person’s experience of depression is different. We offer an individually tailored, comprehensive therapy program for depression designed to improve wellbeing and motivation.
Our goal is to give you back the capacity to look forward to things and fully enjoy your life, no matter what comes your way.
While undergoing treatment for depression, patients will receive psychoeducation about their condition and be provided with tools and coping skills to ameliorate symptoms and optimize functioning.
*Therapy is also available via GIA’s telehealth programs.
Individuals suffering from depression and other psychiatric disorders sometimes engage in substance use. GIA’s medical and clinical staff is trained to address comorbid conditions and can treat these conditions effectively.
Anxiety invades our lives and prevents us from enjoying the present moment. Anxiety disrupts our sleep, disturbs our work and relationships, and can co-occur with other conditions such as depression and addiction.
GIA Miami designs therapies specially focused on addressing the root causes of your anxiety. We will work with you as your partners to help alleviate anxiety, manage stress, and improve your quality of life.
Once the treatment team conducts a comprehensive medical and psychological evaluation to understand and accurately diagnose your symptoms of anxiety, they will devise an individualized treatment plan.
The recent COVID-19 pandemic has changed the world as we knew it and caused myriad harmful, long-term effects in thousands of people, severely affecting their well-being and daily functioning. These effects can persist long after the acute infection has subsided. In addition, the stress of the pandemic has worsened depression, anxiety, and drug and alcohol use for many people, even if they have not contracted COVID-19.
When we think of the impacts of COVID-19, we tend to think of the physical symptoms of the disease. However, the mental and psychological symptoms can be just as overwhelming: the anxiety that comes with lost employment, the depression following the illness or loss of a loved one, the negative emotional impacts of weeks of isolation, and the general uncertainty about our futures.
Researchers are only just beginning to explore the adverse effects of the COVID-19 pandemic on the brain and on our mental wellness. At GIA, we are proud to incorporate cutting-edge research and scientific advances in our treatment programs. As this public health crisis has continued, many people have reported severe effects on their mental abilities, such as:
To cope with the COVID-19 psychological symptoms, we offer a full complement of psychotherapeutic approaches:
Because we offer such a broad range of therapeutic approaches in the COVID-19 recovery program, we tailor our protocols to the specific needs of each patient. All of the therapies listed above are available remotely through our comprehensive telehealth program. This way, we can ensure that you get the help you need.
“The mind is just like a muscle—the more you exercise it, the stronger it gets and the more it can expand”. Idowu Koyenikan.
When our mind is full of negative or unproductive thoughts, it becomes difficult to perform our best. Whether you want to improve your physical performance or work efficiency, having optimal mental performance will be part of your success. It takes time, effort, and practice to excel at a physical skill, and the same is true for mental skills. With the right tools, including Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS) treatment at GIA, we can help you boost your mental performance to focus on what is necessary to perform at your best in what matters most to you.
TMS is being used by professional athletes and top executives to guarantee they are 100% focused and on top of their game.
Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS) is an exciting, non-invasive treatment that improves cognitive and psychological function. TMS has been used for decades with proven results in treating mood and behavioral disorders, including addictions. GIA is one of the first clinics to successfully adapt TMS protocols to maximize mental performance.
TMS is a form of non-invasive brain stimulation. A magnetic coil is placed on the scalp, creating a magnetic field. The coil is then targeted to stimulate groups of cells in the frontal areas of the brain. The small electromagnetic pulses are painless. The procedure itself is non-invasive, and stimulation sessions usually last no more than 15 minutes.
TMS can be administered without having to reduce or interrupt any medications that our clients are currently taking.
Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) is a condition that affects approximately 4% of U.S adults, according to the National Institute of Mental Health. Only professional help can provide effective and long-term solutions.
GIA Miami offers treatment that is comprehensive, innovative, and designed to provide the best possible outcome.
PTSD is a psychiatric disorder which varies in presentation.
● Intrusive thoughts such as repeated, involuntary memories, distressing dreams or flashbacks of the traumatic event.
● Avoiding reminders of the traumatic event may include avoiding people, places, activities, objects and situations that may trigger distressing memories.
● Inability to remember important aspects of the traumatic event, negative thoughts and feelings leading to ongoing and distorted beliefs about oneself or others (e.g., “I am bad,” “No one can be trusted”).
● Distorted thoughts about the cause or consequences of the event leading to wrongly blaming self or other.
● Ongoing fear, horror, anger, guilt or shame.
● Much less interest in activities previously enjoyed.
● Being unable to experience positive emotions.
● Problems concentrating or sleeping.
Treatment for PTSD focuses on alleviating symptoms and assist you in acquiring coping skills to manage symptoms effectively. Because individuals with PTSD present differently, treatment is individualized.
During your treatment, you will work closely with GIA counselors to explore your condition and life experiences. At GIA we also provide treatment for PTSD combined with any addiction and other behavioral health treatments that you may need.
PTSD creates significant changes in your brain chemistry that affect your life negatively, preventing you from fully enjoying it. With proper care, this condition can be treated and reversed. GIA Miami’s comprehensive treatment program will help you heal.
